A Bartending Course an Hour Down the Sea to Sky From Squamish
Seven days behind a real 22-foot bar, then back to one of the best small-town beer scenes in the province with a certificate.
A Town That Drinks Well and Hires Often
Squamish has grown from a mill town into an outdoor destination with a brewing scene that punches far above its population, and it needs staff who know what they are doing. Our school is at 319 West Pender Street in downtown Vancouver, about an hour down the Sea to Sky Highway. Students come from downtown Squamish, Garibaldi Highlands, Valleycliffe, Brackendale and Britannia Beach.
The 7-Day Commercial Bartending Course starts from zero. You learn the standard recipes, the four core mixing methods, accurate pouring and how to hold your rhythm through a busy service, and you leave with the Fine Art Commercial Bartender Certificate. Quest students, seasonal workers and people moving into hospitality all take it.
Getting to Class from Squamish
Driving down Highway 99 takes about an hour in good conditions, which makes a daily commute possible if you are determined, though winter weather and the occasional highway closure make it unpredictable. Downtown parking is metered all day, so budget for it or park further out and take transit the last stretch.
Coach services run between Squamish and downtown Vancouver on a scheduled basis, which works if the timing lines up with your class. Check the current schedules when you book, because they change seasonally. Plenty of Squamish students split the difference and stay in the city for the week instead. Seven return trips on the Sea to Sky is a lot of driving, and staying over removes the weather from the equation entirely.
If you are driving in daily through the winter, give yourself extra time. The highway does close, and the class does not wait.

Bartending Jobs in Squamish
For a town this size, the market is unusually good. Cleveland Avenue carries the restaurants and pubs, and the brewing scene between Backcountry, A-Frame and Howe Sound gives you several proper taprooms within walking distance of each other. The Sea to Sky Gondola, the climbing and biking tourism, and the steady flow of people passing through to Whistler keep it busy well beyond the summer.
Taprooms and tourist-facing bars want people who can pour accurately, move quickly and talk about what is in the glass. Seven days behind a real bar covers all three. Our bartender job board, resume template and interview support help with the applications.
A certificate is not a job guarantee, and we will never pretend otherwise. It does give you a real edge when you apply.

Our Classroom Is a Real Bar
You will not learn this on a tabletop or off a slide deck. Every class runs behind a genuine 22-foot bar, and each student gets their own fully stocked station with bottles, tools, ice and glassware. Classes stay small on purpose, so an instructor can watch your hands and correct you while you are pouring rather than after the fact.
Modern, Hands-On Curriculum
Bartending is a trade, so roughly two-thirds of your time is spent behind the bar rather than taking notes. The training manual is reviewed and updated regularly to match what bars are actually ordering, from the classic builds every room expects to the drinks that have come up more recently.
Squamish, Answered
The questions we hear most from Squamish.
Do I need experience?
None at all. The course is built for complete beginners. Most students walk in having never made a cocktail. On Day 1 you're already pouring and building drinks behind the bar.
Do I need Serving It Right?
SIR is a separate ~$35 BC government certificate to serve alcohol on the job. It's not part of our course (and isn't needed to attend, since we don't use real alcohol), but we recommend completing it before you start applying.
Will this help me get a bartending job?
That's the goal. You finish with a recognized Commercial Bartender Certificate, a reviewed resume, interview prep, and access to our Vancouver Bartender Job Board where employers post openings.
Is there a bartending school in Squamish?
No. Fine Art Bartending School has one location, at 319 West Pender Street, Unit 10 in downtown Vancouver, about an hour down the Sea to Sky from Squamish.
Can I commute daily from Squamish for the seven days?
Some students do. It is roughly an hour each way in good conditions, but the Sea to Sky is weather-dependent and downtown parking is metered. A fair number of Squamish students stay in the city for the week instead.
Will this help me get hired at a Squamish taproom?
It gives you a real head start. Taprooms want accurate pouring, speed and someone who can talk about what they are serving, which is most of what the course covers.
