Bartending Training for Port Moody and Brewers Row
Seven days behind a real 22-foot bar downtown, then a certificate you can walk into any tasting room on Murray Street with.
The city with the beer scene, and the training to match.
Port Moody has one of the densest craft drinking strips in the province and a SkyTrain station at either end of town, which is a useful combination if you want to work in this industry. The school itself sits at 319 West Pender Street, on the edge of Gastown. Students ride in from Moody Centre, Inlet Centre, Newport Village, Klahanie, Suter Brook and Heritage Mountain.
The 7-Day Commercial Bartending Course assumes nothing. In one week you cover the standard recipes, accurate pouring, the four mixing methods and how to hold your pace behind a busy bar, and you finish with the Fine Art Commercial Bartender Certificate. Plenty of our Port Moody students already work in hospitality here and want to move from the floor to behind the bar.
Getting to class from Port Moody.
Take the Millennium Line from Moody Centre or Inlet Centre and change at Commercial–Broadway for any Expo Line train heading downtown. Stadium–Chinatown is your stop, and we are five minutes from the platform on foot. Allow roughly 50 minutes in total from Moody Centre, so about an hour door to door.
The West Coast Express also stops at Moody Centre and runs into Waterfront in around 30 minutes on weekday mornings, which is faster if the timing works for your class. Driving in on the Barnet Highway is fine outside peak hours and slow inside them, and downtown parking is paid.

Our Classroom Is a Real Bar.
There is no simulation involved. You work behind a real 22-foot bar at your own fully stocked station, using the same tools, bottles and glassware you will find in a working room. Because the classes are deliberately small, you get corrected in the moment instead of hearing about it at the end of the day.

Questions about the course.
Still deciding? Here are the things students most often ask before they sign up.
Do I need any experience?
None at all. The course is built for complete beginners, most students walk in having never made a cocktail. By Day 1 you're already pouring and building drinks behind the bar.
Do I have to memorise every recipe?
No, that's what the 7 days are for. Once you learn the ratio system on Day 2, you understand how drinks are built instead of memorising each one. By the exam, the key recipes are second nature.
What if I don't pass the exam on Day 7?
Unlimited free retakes are included in your $799, for life. There's no fee and no expiration. Plenty of students retake to sharpen up; it's a normal part of learning.
Do you use real alcohol in class?
No. We practise with coloured water so you can make 50+ drinks per class and focus on technique, recipes and speed, without anyone drinking on the job.
Will this actually help me get a job?
That's the goal. You finish with a recognised Commercial Bartender Certificate, a reviewed resume, interview prep, and access to our Vancouver Bartender Job Board where employers post openings.
Do I need Serving It Right (SIR) too?
SIR is a separate ~$35 BC government certificate to serve alcohol on the job. It's not part of our course (and isn't needed to attend, since we don't use real alcohol), but we recommend completing it before you start applying.
