Porn Star Cocktail

The Porn Star cocktail can be served in a highball glass or as a different type of martini. This recipe is also popularly served as a shot. We will cover both options here, since we do cover both recipes in our Commercial Bartending Classes.

The origins of the drink are unclear, and there is no definitive information available about who created it. It is believed to have originated in the early 2000s, and has since become a popular drink in bars and restaurants around the world.

There are a couple conflicting recipes on the web, but the traditional Porn Star requires the use of a sour raspberry liqueur and Blue Curacao. The most popular sour red raspberry in Canada is the Sour Puss brand, distributed by the Phillips Distilling Company based in Minnesota. The same liqueur is used in Red Dragon shots and their sour green apple version can be found as a main component in a Green Appletini. This sour raspberry liqueur is also found with Blue Curacao in the Blue Raspberry martini.

Porn Star Cocktail Ingredients

1/2 Ounce Sour Raspberry Liqueur
1/2 Ounce Blue Curacao
7-up or Sprite
Cranberry Juice

How to Make and Serve as a Cocktail

This cocktail should be built on ice, in a short glass. It’s meant to be quick to assemble and serve.

Fill a highball glass with ice
Add your sour raspberry liqueur by pouring it down one side of the glass
Add the Blue Curacao down the other side of the glass
Top up the glass with your lemon-lime soda (7-up or Sprite)
Toss a dash of cranberry juice on top
no garnish for this drink

Of course you could take the sour raspberry, Blue Curacao and dash of cranberry, then add them to a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously and pour into a chilled martini glass. Add a splash of your lemon-lime soda to top up the cocktail a little and add even more sweetness.

To Make the Porn Star Shooter

The shot is much simpler to prepare. Serving this shot does require a little care and attention though.

Add Blue Curacao to the shot glass
Slowly add the red sour raspberry to the shot glass by either running the liqueur down the side of the shot glass, or use a spoon to layer accordingly

For speed, just grab both your Blue Curacao and Red Sourpuss at the same time and pour both into your shot glass. The majority of your customers wanting this easy shot aren’t drinking it because they appreciate the artistry of layering the red and blue. They just want to slam the sugary shot back, and maybe chase it with a beer.
